In John’s day, the antichrists about whom he was writing were trying to lead God’s people astray through false teaching. John said that the anointing of the Holy Spirit would teach those to whom He was writing and would continue to guide them into Truth. John said:
I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. 27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him. - 1 John 2:26-27 (NIV)
Be careful when it comes to those you listen to when it comes to teachers and preachers. If God’s Spirit is warning you that what they are teaching doesn’t sound quite right, then search the Scriptures and judge correctly. God gave you His Spirit to lead you into Truth. Don’t ignore His Spirit, but instead allow the Spirit to guide you today.
