What We Know

Toward the end of 1 John 5, the Apostle John talks about some of the things that Christians know. In verse 20, this is what he says we know:

We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. – 1 John 5:20 (NIV)

Jesus came into the world so that we could know God, the One who is true. Not only do we know Him, but we are in Him through faith in Christ. Jesus is not only the Son of God, but He IS God and the source of eternal life. We can trust our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ for they are true and always have our best in mind and at heart. God wants what is best for us and though it may not seem like it at the time, God knows better than we know. Our desire should be to know the Father and the Son through the Holy Spirit and to trust them to do what is loving and best in our lives.

The Lord Gives Wisdom

When it comes to wisdom and understanding, God is the source of both. Solomon writes:

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. – Proverbs 9:10 (NIV)

James, the brother of Jesus, wrote in his letter:

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. – James 1:5 (NIV)

How do we acquire wisdom? By asking the Lord. If you want to make wise choices and make better decisions, you need to ask the Lord for wisdom. That means humbling yourself before Him and seeking Him and His wisdom. You can learn quite a bit from people as far as knowledge is concerned, but if you want to be wise, you need to go to the source of wisdom and that is God. Take a little bit of time to pray today and ask the Lord for wisdom. He will generously give you all that you need to be wise.
