I Am God’s Child

Being part of a family is a wonderful gift. Some people are born into families. Some people are adopted into families. Some people marry into families. Some of those situations are really good, but some can be pretty rough. There’s a family that God wants everyone to be a part of and it is a great family. The apostle Paul wrote:

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”

 – Romans 8:14-15 (NIV)
When you surrender your life to Jesus, God adopts you into His wonderful family. We go from outsiders to insiders. We go from orphans to children of the King and from homeless to the palace. God calls you His daughter or His son and that makes you royalty. You’re a princess or a prince because you belong to God’s family and you are His precious child.

God’s Children

Is everyone a child of God? Are we really all God’s children? The Apostle John seems to be saying that the answer is no. He wrote:

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. – 1 John 3:1 (NIV)

There is a difference between God’s children and the world. God loves the world, but He calls those who know Him His children. Those who have trusted Jesus for forgiveness have been adopted into the family of God and have been made children of God. This is only made possible by the love of God that we have had lavished upon us. God is not stingy with His love. He does not withhold it from anyone who wants to receive it. What are you waiting for? Receive the love of the Father and be an orphan no longer. Let Him adopt you into His family by grace through faith in Jesus.
