The Secret To A Long Life

For years, people have been searching for a mythical “fountain of youth.” It seems that everyone wants to look younger, feel healthier and live longer. So we use supplements, creams and ointments. We try dietary changes and exercise routines. We go for check-ups and vaccinations. All of this in an attempt to prolong our years on this planet. In the book of Proverbs, Solomon tells us the secret to a long life. He wrote this in Proverbs 10:27 (NIV):

The fear of the Lord adds length to life,
but the years of the wicked are cut short.

Do you want to live an extended life? Fear the Lord, Solomon says. Put your faith in Him. Do you need to take care of yourself? Sure. You need to take care of your physical needs. You also cannot neglect the spiritual side of yourself. Following God’s commandments found in Scripture will prolong your life. Proverbs aren’t necessarily guarantees and that is true for this one. However, I know that following Jesus and avoiding sin and wickedness will most likely add years to your life and abundant life to your years. After all, God is the Author of life and He knows best.

Life In The Son

Jesus said that He is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). The Apostle John wrote his biography of Jesus so that people would believe in Jesus and that by believing we would have life in His name. John 1:4 (NIV) says, “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.” John also wrote in his first letter about the correlation between Jesus and life. He says:

Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. – 1 John 5:12 (NIV)

If you want to get a life, you’ve got to get Jesus because Jesus IS life. So many people wander aimlessly through life wondering if there is anything more to it. Is there any purpose to life? Is there any meaning to life? YES! It is found in Jesus Christ, the Son of God! He came to give us life to the fullest (John 10:10). Jesus came to give life and He wants to give it to you. If you want life, you need Jesus. He willingly and graciously gives life to all who earnestly seek Him.

Jesus IS Life

Good Thursday morning to you! In Colossians 3:3, Paul said that our lives are hidden with Christ. He goes on to say in verse 4 that Jesus IS our very life. He says:

When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. – Colossians 3:4 (NIV)

Jesus said in the Gospel of John that He is the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:25). John 1:4 (NIV) says,

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

Jesus rose from the dead on the third day, just as He said He would, and He lives forevermore. Those who put their trust in Him for salvation receive life from Him and will live with Him eternally. John 20:31 says that we have life in His name when we trust in Him. Jesus said that He came to give abundant life to His followers (John 10:10). If you feel like you’re living a half-life or that you have no life, then you need to trust Jesus because He IS life. He can give you life like no one else. A life filled with meaning and purpose. A life filled with joy that lasts even in hard times. A life that is filled with hope because it is a life that will never end. Jesus IS life and if you don’t know Jesus, you don’t know how good life can really be.
