Meekness Is Not Weakness

When you hear the word meek, you may think of a 98 pound weakling getting sand kicked in his face at the beach. Or you may think of someone who is a doormat who lets everyone walk all over him. This is not the true definition of meekness. Meekness is strength under control. It’s being humble and gentle when one doesn’t have to be. Jesus says that the meek are truly blessed by God. He said:

Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth. – Matthew 5:5 (NIV)

Rather than taking the earth by force, they inherit the earth from the One who is truly in charge. As you move about your day today, remember this important beatitude. Be humble when you could boast. Be gentle when you could be harsh. Be meek when you could lash out. Restrain your emotions and your outbursts. Your Father in Heaven will reward you when you are meek.
