The Lord Our God

In the Ten Commandments, God gives His people a set of rules to abide by that will protect them in the community of faith. He begins by identifying Himself and reminding them of what He had done for the Israelites. Moses wrote:

And God spoke all these words: 2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. – Exodus 20:1-2 (NIV)

God didn’t bring us out of slavery in Egypt, but He did deliver us from slavery and bondage to sin and its consequences. God the Father sent His Son, Jesus, to deliver us from sin. Sin owned us as slaves. We were held in bondage to its power over us. Jesus, who never sinned, went to the cross as the perfect and acceptable human sacrifice in order to forgive our many sins and set us free. Sin no longer has control over us. We have been freed from the consequences of sin. Hell is no longer our destiny. God has delivered us from sin and darkness and is leading us to the Promised Land of Heaven.
