Avoiding Gossip

Gossip is very dangerous, according to Solomon. We need to be careful when it comes to what we say and to whom we say it. Check out what he says:

A gossip betrays a confidence;
    so avoid anyone who talks too much. – Proverbs 20:19 (NIV)

Earlier in Proverbs, Solomon wrote this about gossip:

The words of a gossip are like choice morsels;
    they go down to the inmost parts. – Proverbs 18:8 (NIV)

Not only should we be careful when it comes to the people to whom we speak, but we should be careful when it comes to what we listen to as well. A gossip will betray your confidence, so watch out when sharing too much or else you may be considered a gossip as well. Let’s face it, juicy gossip can be “fun” to hear. It can also tear a person down. So don’t spread gossip. After all, would you want someone gossiping about you?
