Twice in Proverbs 16 does Solomon say that the Lord establishes something. First, in verse 3, he says:

Commit to the Lord whatever you do,
and he will establish your plans. – Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)

He also says in verse 9:

In their hearts humans plan their course,
but the Lord establishes their steps. – Proverbs 16:9 (NIV)

In verse 3, the Hebrew word for “commit” literally means to “roll.” In other words, roll your plans off of your shoulders and onto the shoulders of the Lord and He will bring about your plans. In verse 9, we see that while we may plot our course through life, it is the Lord who determines where we go. He makes our steps firm. The point of both of these verses is to take your plans to God before charting your course. With God, our plans come to fruition. With God, there is a greater chance of success. There will still be hard times and difficult days, but if God is with us and for us, then who can be against us?
