Love And Hate

Solomon wrote about the difference between love and hate in Proverbs 10. He said:

Hatred stirs up conflict,
but love covers over all wrongs. – Proverbs 10:12 (NIV)

The Apostle Peter wrote something similar in his first letter:

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. – 1 Peter 4:8 (NIV)

I pray that we can someday get it right. Hate doesn’t change anyone. You cannot hate someone into God’s Kingdom. We should be loving people – all people – into a relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Hating people who are different than you never works. Hating people who hurt you makes you bitter and resentful. Only the love of God coming through His people can transform this world. God’s love sent Jesus to the cross and it covers our sins. When we truly love people the way that Jesus loves us, we can forgive offenses against us. If God can forgive us for all that we’ve done because of His great love, then we can love and forgive other people who have offended us. It’s not our job to hate anyone. It’s our job to spread God’s love to everyone.
