Guarding Your Heart

We have to guard our hearts from the filth of this world. We have to be careful what we watch, listen to and absorb from the world. Why? It is because everything that comes in goes straight to our hearts and then comes back out. Solomon wrote:

Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it. – Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)

Jesus said something very similar:

For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. – Luke 6:45 (NIV)

If we do not guard our hearts and if we allow them to be filled with filth and garbage, then filth and garbage will come out of our mouths and our lives. To whom are you listening? What are you watching? With whom do you hang around? All of these factors, and more, can change who we are and how we behave. Evaluate what you are putting into your heart, your viewing habits, your listening habits and your relationships, and change the things that are filling it with with filth.
