Just What I Need

My favorite passage in Proverbs is found in chapter 30. Agur wrote:

Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
    give me neither poverty nor riches,
but give me only my daily bread.

Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you
    and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’
Or I may become poor and steal,
and so dishonor the name of my God. – Proverbs 30:8-9 (NIV)

He asked the Lord for his daily bread, nothing more and nothing less. He knew that money is a source of sin. He would either become self-reliant or he would resort to robbery. There is so much wisdom in praying for daily bread. Jesus told us to do so in the Lord’s Prayer. Instead of worrying about tomorrow, we need to focus on trusting God today. Let Him provide for what you need and let us be satisfied in Him.
