For The Sake Of His Name

Sheep tend to wander away. It’s not just because they’re not the brightest animals in the world. It’s also because their wool will grow over their eyes. They need to be led by their shepherd and so do we. David wrote:

He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake. – Psalm 23:3b (ESV)

Jesus, as our Good Shepherd, leads us along right paths so that we don’t wander into dangerous territory. Why does He do this? For the sake of His very name. Proverbs 18:10 (ESV) says:

The name of the Lord is a strong tower;
    the righteous man runs into it and is safe.

The name of the Lord is a safe place and when God leads us in those right paths, He proves His name to be such. Follow your Shepherd today. He’ll lead you to safety like no one else possibly could. If you’re afraid that you’re wandering down the wrong path, remember that your Shepherd will lead you home.
