The Destiny Of False Prophets

Jesus concludes His teaching on false and true prophets with these words from Matthew 7:

A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. – Matthew 7:17-20 (NIV)

We can recognize a false prophet and a false teacher by the fruit produced by their lives. Inconsistency and hypocrisy are the fruit of false teachers and false prophets. Their destiny is destruction. Those who purposefully lead people astray with false teachings are destined to be cut off and thrown into the fire. When false teachers and false prophets spew forth heretical lies, God is listening. He will repay those who lead people astray. We must be on our guard against those who preach and teach lies. Instead, we must listen to the Truth of God’s Word with discerning ears and hearts. May the Holy Spirit be our guide.
