Good Fruit/Bad Fruit

Good Wednesday morning to you! Jesus said that we can recognize a false prophet and a true prophet by the type of fruit that they bear. Matthew 7:16-17 (NIV) says:

By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.

In Scripture, when the word “fruit” is used, it is used to describe behavior. Jesus is telling us that you can discern a false prophet from a true one by the way that they live and not just by what they teach. Hypocrisy and inconsistency are the hallmarks of a false teacher. If a preacher or teacher says one thing and does another, look out! False preachers and teachers will say anything to draw a crowd to themselves for the purpose of fame, wealth and glory. They’ll scratch itching ears with a watered down Gospel in order to get rich off of the backs of the people they’re supposed to be shepherding. Sheep, be careful who you are following and shepherds, be careful what you teach.
