The Golden Rule

Jesus summed up the entire Old Testament with eleven words:

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. – Matthew 7:12 (NIV)

In everything we do or say, we must consider what we would want others to say about us or do to us. This is what it means to live as a Christian. Do you want people to gossip about you or slander you or stab you in the back? Of course not! So don’t talk bad about others. Do you want people to steal from you or cheat on you or lie to you? No way! Then why would you do those things to someone else? Being a Christian isn’t about being nice to earn your way to Heaven. You can’t do that. Being a Christian is about loving God by loving people. Pastor Jon Weece said that we receive love from the Father so we can give love to others. Being a Christian is about learning to put God first and others second and yourself last. When we do that, we’ll look more like Jesus because that’s exactly what He did.
