Bring Them To Jesus

John 1:35-42 (NIV)

The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”

37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”

They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”

39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”

So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.

40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus.

Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter).

After spending some time with Jesus, Andrew knew. He knew that he had found the Messiah. He had heard John the Baptist’s testimony about Jesus and started following Him immediately. The Apostle John says that the first thing that Andrew did was to find his brother, Simon and tell him the good news. They had actually found the Messiah. Andrew brought his brother to Jesus and Jesus changed his name to Cephas or Peter. Not only did Jesus change Peter’s name, but He changed his life.

Jesus still changes lives today. We who follow Jesus must remember this. When we are ready to count someone out and say, “Oh, they’ll never follow Jesus,” we need to be like Andrew. Our job isn’t to change anyone’s life. Our job is to bring people to Jesus in order that He can change their lives. Jesus does the transformation. We just have to get people to Him. Because once people spend time with Jesus, they’ll know that He is who the Bible says He is. He is the Messiah. He is the Friend of sinners. He is the Son of the Living God. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. He is the Savior of the world. He is Jesus and nothing is impossible for Him.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I pray today for the people I know who aren’t following Jesus yet. I pray that You would stir in their hearts a desire to hear about Your Son. I pray that You would give me an opportunity today to tell people about Jesus. Help me to be bold and courageous that I might share the good news with them. In His name, amen.
