Praying For A Harvest

The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. — Luke 10:2 (NIV)

God offers us a unique opportunity to partner with Him in the Gospel’s harvest.  There are many who will believe that Jesus is the Son of God and accept His offer of salvation by grace through faith in Him.  There are many, across the world, who will answer the call to become followers of Christ.  Rather than sitting around waiting for workers to go into the harvest field, Jesus calls us to pray that God will raise up and send out workers into His field.

We need to be praying for the next generation of Christian leaders, ministers and missionaries.  We need to be praying that God will raise up young men and women to go out and share the Gospel with those who are in desperate need of God’s saving grace.  We need to be willing to answer the call ourselves and go into the harvest field wherever that may be.  God has prepared a field for us and we need to be out in our fields reaping the harvest.

Every Christian is called to minister in one way or another.  We have a sphere of influence in the harvest field.  How can we communicate the Gospel with and without words to a world that is in desperate need of the Good News?

First, we must pray.  Pray for opportunities and pray for more workers in the field.

Second, we must go.  Jesus, in the Great Commission, tells His disciples to go and make more disciples.  The Greek tense of the word “go” indicates that they were to be making disciples while they were going.  Making disciples isn’t something we go and do.  It is something we do during the course of daily life.

Third, we must tell.  We must share our story of how Jesus has changed our lives.  We must seize those opportunities God gives to tell people the Good News of Jesus Christ.

The harvest is plentiful!  Are you ready to work?

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I want to see people come to know Jesus as their Savior and Lord. Help me to be one of the workers in the harvest field. Please continue to raise up young men and women to go into the fields as ministers and missionaries so that many more may be reached with the Gospel. Bless Your church and empower us by the Holy Spirit to transform lives for Your glory. In the name of Jesus, amen.
