Talking About The Weather

Luke 12:54-59 (NIV)

Interpreting the Times

54 He said to the crowd: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘It’s going to rain,’ and it does. 55 And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It’s going to be hot,’ and it is. 56 Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time?

57 “Why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right? 58 As you are going with your adversary to the magistrate, try hard to be reconciled on the way, or your adversary may drag you off to the judge, and the judge turn you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison. 59 I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.”

I check weather sites.  I usually check the following on a fairly regular basis:

To that you would need to add 2 nightly news weather forecasts I watch on TV.  You might say that I’m a little nuts about the weather.  Why?  I don’t really know.  I just am.  Jesus talked about the weather in Luke 12:54-59.

When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘It’s going to rain,’ and it does. 55 And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It’s going to be hot,’ and it is. 56 Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time? – Luke 12:54-56 (NIV)

What Jesus said then is true today.  Our world is falling apart and we’re staring at the sky trying to figure out what the weather will be tomorrow or the next day.  We’re more concerned about the weather than we are the state of our communities, countries and world.  We watch the evening news and wish we could fast forward through the violent crimes and scandals to get to the weather.  We spend more time thinking about the weather and how it will affect our plans than we do on our knees praying for our world.  Jesus will be coming back and we’re not preparing people for His return.  When Christ returns, it will be too late!  Can’t you see the signs of His coming?  Are you ready?  Are your loved ones ready?  Is our world ready?  Until everyone hears and has that opportunity to choose or reject Christ, we must be working day and night.  The weather will come and go.  Seasons will change.  Our God will never change and His promises will never fail.  Let us be prepared for the season of Christ’s return.

PRAYER: Thank You, Father, for the promises You’ve made. I need to hear Your voice today. I want to lift up our world to You as we eagerly await the return of Your Son. Help me to make a difference for Your Kingdom. Amen.
