You Are A Child Of The King

1 John 3:1-3 (NIV)
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.
I do not believe that everyone is a child of God.  Those who have received His gift of love through Jesus Christ are the true children of God.  In the previous verse (1 John 2:29, NIV), John says:

If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.

Knowing Jesus and doing what is right is the prerequisite of being born of Him.  To be a child of God, one must be adopted into God’s family.
Don’t get me wrong.  Everyone is a creation of God and made in His image.  We all bear the image of God.  Everyone is loved by God as well.  He loves the world.  That means everyone!  But the special relationship of the Father to His children is reserved for those who have been born of Him.  I believe that there is a clear distinction between God’s children and God’s creation.
So what does this mean?  It means that God’s family isn’t big enough yet.  If you are a part of God’s family, your job is to bring potential brothers and sisters into the family.  There are many who will still put their faith and trust in Jesus and be made part of the family.  Let’s go get them!
It also means that you have a special place in God’s family.  You are a child of the King!  You are His son or His daughter.  That means you are His prince or His princess.  No matter what the world may tell you, you are God’s precious child and He loves you so very much.
PRAYER: Help me to hear Your voice today, Father.  Help me to know and to feel Your love.  I thank You for making me a part of Your family.  May I have opportunities to bring others in by Your grace.  Amen.
