Loving The Antichrists

1 John 2:18-23 (NIV)

Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.

20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. 21 I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. 22 Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist—denying the Father and the Son. 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

According to John, if you’re not for Jesus, you’re against Him.  There were some false teachers in the early church who left their faith and denied that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God.  They fell for a lie straight from the enemy.  To deny the Truth that Jesus is the Son of God is to believe a lie.  To perpetuate that lie and to teach that Jesus is anything other than the Son of God, the promised Savior of the world is to be an antichrist.

The scary thing is that our world is full of antichrists.  There are many who stand opposed to Jesus.  Paul wrote in Philippians 3:18 (NIV) that “many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.”  There are many people who do many good things in our world.  They create beauty and do kind things to help people.  They rescue animals and recycle and love their families.  They don’t cheat on their taxes or their spouses and they give to charity.  But they don’t know Jesus.  They don’t love Jesus.  They don’t believe in Jesus.  They deny Jesus.  They aren’t going to Heaven.  It’s not because they’re not nice.  It’s because they don’t know Jesus.

This is why it is so extremely important that followers of Christ lovingly share the Gospel with the antichrists of our world.  No one has to go to Hell!  God’s deepest desire is for everyone to go to Heaven.  That’s why He sent His Son!  He sacrificed His own Son on a Roman cross to save us from an eternity separated from God in Hell.  Jesus took the punishment that we deserve.  He gave up His life as a perfect human sacrifice to satisfy the wrath of God and rescue us from Hell.  We’ve got to tell people the good news of Jesus and His love.  We have to demonstrate and show His love to a world full of antichrists.  It is their only hope.

PRAYER: Father in Heaven, give me an opportunity to share my faith with someone today.  Help me to see that opportunity and to seize it.  Thank You for saving me through Jesus.  Amen.
