The Lord Is Loving

The Lord Is Loving (from February 2011)

The LORD is faithful to all his promises
and loving toward all he has made.

The LORD is righteous in all his ways
and loving toward all he has made.   — Psalm 145:13b, 17 (NIV)

We see here in Psalm 145 that God is “loving toward all He has made.”  What a wonderful thought!  He loves everyone and everything that He has made.  There is nothing that God does that isn’t motivated by love.  There is nothing that God does that isn’t filled with His love.  Even His discipline of His children is motivated by love (Hebrews 12:6, NIV).  He longs to see the best in us and for us and therefore will gently discipline us out of His great love for us.

What strikes me about David’s words in Psalm 145 is that he writes that God “is loving toward all He has made” (emphasis added).  That’s everyone and everything.  Sometimes I think that we do not believe that God should be loving towards all He has made.  That He should pour out special favor on those He has made and who follow Him!  He should express more love for those who have surrendered their lives to Christ.  If that were to happen, then God would cease to be love.  For love does not play favorites.  If we were truly filled with love (as it says in 1 Corinthians 13), we would not be “self-seeking” (1 Corinthians 13:5, NIV).  We would understand that God’s love for all He has made means that those outside of Christ might come to understand God’s love demonstrated in Jesus and His sacrificial death and follow and obey Christ!  What could possibly be better than seeing those far from God draw near to Him by His loving grace?  It is that same loving grace that allowed us to draw near to Him!  Oh, that we could comprehend God’s love!  Oh, that those who are far from Him might come to know it, too!

Won’t you pray for someone today who hasn’t experienced God’s love?  Pray that they might have such a wonderful experience of His love that they would come to accept Christ’s offer of salvation and forgiveness.

PRAYER: Father, I pray for ____________________ because they don’t know Your love in their life.  I pray that they would experience Your love through me and through other believers that they might come to a knowledge of the Truth.  Thank You for loving me and for calling me Your friend.  In Jesus’ name I ask these things, amen.
