God Loves You

Micah 7:14-20 (NIV)

Shepherd your people with your staff,
    the flock of your inheritance,
which lives by itself in a forest,
    in fertile pasturelands.
Let them feed in Bashan and Gilead
    as in days long ago.

15 “As in the days when you came out of Egypt,
    I will show them my wonders.”

16 Nations will see and be ashamed,
    deprived of all their power.
They will put their hands over their mouths
    and their ears will become deaf.
17 They will lick dust like a snake,
    like creatures that crawl on the ground.
They will come trembling out of their dens;
    they will turn in fear to the Lord our God
    and will be afraid of you.
18 Who is a God like you,
    who pardons sin and forgives the transgression
    of the remnant of his inheritance?
You do not stay angry forever
    but delight to show mercy.
19 You will again have compassion on us;
    you will tread our sins underfoot
    and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.
20 You will be faithful to Jacob,
    and show love to Abraham,
as you pledged on oath to our ancestors
    in days long ago.

”You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy” (Micah 7:18b, NIV).  Think about these words for a few moments.  God delights in showing mercy.  He does not harbor anger or bitterness.  He does not delight in displaying His wrath.  He delights in showing mercy.  He delights in forgiveness and pardoning sin.  How is this even possible?
We have sinned against God time and time again.  Surely He must be sick of our act by now!   Surely He must grow more angry and frustrated with His prized creation as we reject Him and rebel against Him day in and day out!  He has every right to spit us out of His mouth for surely we must have left a bitter taste there.  He should have wiped us off of the face of the earth a billion times over by now and yet He hasn’t.  Why?  Because He is a God of mercy and grace.  He would rather forgive than condemn.  He would rather send His only Son, Jesus, to suffer for our sake than to spend eternity without us.
Maybe you have the wrong image of the Father.  Perhaps you think He’s angry with you all the time.  Maybe you think that He is a God who hates.  Maybe you think He’s disappointed in you for your past mistakes and sins.  It could be that you are afraid of Him and His wrath.  Maybe you think He’s out to get you.  He’s not any of those things.  He’s not mad at you or disappointed.  He doesn’t hate anyone, but rather He loves everyone.  He poured out His wrath on His Son on the cross.  There’s none left for you.  He wants to forgive you and He’s willing to do just that.  He will wipe the slate clean and give you a home with Him.  All you have to do is turn to Him for forgiveness.  It’s a simple plan of salvation that is found in His Word:
1. Believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God (John 3:16)
2. Repent of your sins and turn to God for forgiveness (Acts 2:38)
3. Confess your faith in Jesus (Romans 10:9)
4. Be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins and God’s Spirit will live in you (Acts 2:38)
God will forgive your sins by the gift of His love and grace and you will have the promise of eternal life with Him in Heaven.

PRAYER: Father, I praise and thank You today for Your love, mercy, grace and forgiveness.  Help me to see me as You see me: washed clean through Jesus.  Thank You for forgiving me.  Help me to remember who I am in Jesus.  Amen.
