The Power of the Gospel

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.  For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” — Romans 1:16-17 (NIV)

There is great power in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  In the Good News we discover that we are saved by God’s powerful grace through faith in Jesus.  This salvation isn’t for just a select few.  It is for everyone!  For those who are near to God and those who are far away.  Scripture tells us that Jesus died for everyone, once for all.  He suffered the punishment that our sins required.  He endured the cross for our forgiveness.  That is the power of the Gospel!  That there are not enough good deeds we can do or tithes that we can give that will save us from our sins.  It is a free gift that we receive by faith when we accept Christ’s offer of salvation.  God’s power is displayed as a lifetime of sins (past, present and future) are washed away in the blood of Christ Jesus.  God is able to forgive our many sins and bring us into His family of faith.  Then we go on to live a life of faithfulness, obedience and holiness.  God gives us His powerful Holy Spirit to dwell in us and gives us the power to overcome temptation and sin.  May the power of the Gospel be evident in your life today!

PRAYER: God, I thank You for the mighty power of the good news of Jesus Christ.  That I don’t have to be good enough for salvation.  That I don’t have to earn Your grace.  That I don’t have to clean my act up to come to You for forgiveness.  I can’t do it and You don’t expect me to.  I am so grateful for what You’ve done for me through Jesus.  Amen.
